Course Time:

This course is offered on Tuesdays.
   Biology A & B are identical classes offered in two different periods.


  • This class is typically recommended for advanced 9th, and 10th - 12th grade students.
  • Students must have received at least a B in a first-year Biology course.
  • Previous exposure to Chemistry is recommended, but not required.

    Please note, the file is 207 pages, and not all pages will be used.
    The tutor will give assignments by page title (i.e. "Ventricles") so as to avoid confusion.


Course Description:

This is an advanced biology course.
In order to take this course, the student MUST have completed a first-year Biology course.

We will cover both the anatomy and the physiology of the human body’s eleven organ systems in detail, including the reproductive system.
(This will be covered with the male and female students learning separately the last two weeks of the year.)

Class Time: 

  • Class time will include review of homework and labs, as well as hands-on activities
    to reinforce the material that they will read from their text.
  • Labs will include microscope work and dissections.
  • The students will also work through an anatomy coloring book to enhance their learning experience of each system.
  • Quizzes will be given in class or through Schoology every two weeks and quarter tests every eight weeks.

Homework Requirements:
  • The student will be responsible for reading the material in the text on their own on a weekly basis.
  • Other homework will include weekly study guides, worksheets, pre-lab write-ups, and a project in the first semester.
  • Students can expect to spend approximately 4-5 hours per week on homework.
  • This will consist of reading about 20 pages in the text and answering around 25 questions on the Study Guide.

    • 30%  homework  (study guides and misc. worksheets)
    • 30%  labs  (pre-labs, participation and write-ups)
    • 20%  quizzes
    • 20%  quarter tests
  • First Semester Grades:
    • 40%  1st quarter grade
    • 40%  2nd quarter grade
    • 20%  project 
  • Second Semester Grades:
    • 40%  3rd quarter grade
    • 40%  4th quarter grade
    • 20%  final exam

    **Summer Assignment:
    There will be an assignment from the Anatomy Coloring Book due the first day of class.
